CNYAHEC would like to congratulate Dante Hatem, the winner of the 2018 L. Thomas Wolff, M.D. Scholarship.

Dante is currently a student at the University of Buffalo School of Nursing and is expected to graduate in May of 2019. Dante says his goal is to be a pediatric nurse when he graduates and to eventually obtain his Doctorate of Family Nurse Practitioner. Dante would like to work at the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse after graduation.

Dante participated in CNYAHEC’s MASH camp at Community General in 2011, at the Loretto Nursing home MASH camp in 2011, and in the Natalie’s Knee program in 2012.

Dante is the President of the Multicultural Nursing Student Association at the University of Buffalo. He also was one of three class representatives, through the Million Hearts Initiative, to screen and refer people for cardiovascular health issues. He is also a member of the Nursing Student Organization and a former college basketball player.

“My goal is to be the best student, nurse, and teacher I can be,” Dante stated. “Many people have helped me become the man I am today, including my parents, grandparents, sister, friends, coaches, and teachers. Each person contributed to my personality and actions.”

Dante also stated that his life experiences contributed immensely to his passion for acquiring the skills, education, and training to help him care for others. He said, “when I decided to end my basketball career and change majors to Nursing, it was one of the toughest decisions of my life, but I transferred my strong passion and love for basketball and dedicated the time and effort to nursing and now excel in my class, as well as the clinical and community setting.”
