On Friday, June 16, 2017, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) held their Annual Meeting at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse. The L. Thomas Wolff, M.D. Scholarship was presented at this meeting to Katherine Dovi, a Cortland resident and current D’Youville College student studying Occupational Therapy.

Katherine credits her decision to become an Occupational Therapist on attending a CNYAHEC camp when she was in the 8th grade. This camp, a MASH camp, was intended to interest students in entering the health profession. Katherine says, “I am now planning on doing my level II fieldwork at the Cortland Hospital,” and she plans to apply for an OT position at the Cortland hospital after she graduates. She also says, “I have become very involved in the Cortland community and would love to begin working in the community once I graduate.”

CNYAHEC Board Chair James Kennedy, Director of Clinical and Medicaid Initiatives at Catholic Charities, stated, “Katherine embodies everything the L. Thomas Wolff, M.D. Scholarship stands for. At CNYAHEC, we will continue to cultivate and grow our next generation of health care providers.”

CNYAHEC established the L. Thomas Wolff, M.D. Scholarship to honor Dr. Wolff’s dedication and tireless commitment to educating and supporting students, and practitioners in medicine and health professions in central New York. This scholarship is a competitive annual award for an individual that has successfully completed one or more CNYAHEC programs and have been accepted to and entering in medical health professions program in the next semester cycle. CNYAHEC is a non-profit dedicated to improving the supply, training, development, and distribution of the health workforce throughout New York State.
